I see many new people coming into the blogging and website scene who want to use WordPress as their platform. That is a good thing, but in the learning process they want to skip the basics and jump into advanced level customization, even before learning how to navigate the basic posting and administrator processes. That is not such a good thing.
I see frustration ahead for those people.

Sometimes you want to write something and use a character that isn’t on the keyboard – there are alt formulas, but I found they don’t always give the desired result. So sometimes I need a chart to refer to. My favorite one disappeared from the net, so I had to go looking and found this good resource:
Symbols for Facebook, Myspace, and chat
I used it to find the checkmark I wanted to denote that I had finished a job on the to-do list on my Garden File blog. ✔ just copy and paste!
Fonts 101 for lots of free font choices.
Wp-cufon for your wordpress.
Voila! Hand-crafted headings.

55 Best Ways To Track Your Website Daily Traffic
It doesn’t take very long for a blogger or webmaster to need statistics on traffic coming through their website.
Long ago and far away… at the beginnings of Ilona’s Reflecting Pool in its early days on Geocities… before geocities was Yahoo geocities…. was where this page “Web Help” began. I had been making a few webpages and collecting helpful book marks to tutorials, guestbooks, and all things webmastering. It was very helpful indeed and I used it as my own resource, as well as for all who came to my site looking for those types of resource. It was a list of links plus my minireviews of what I found most helpful.

Now this blog has found it’s use….besides my personal updating experiment lab.
I’m trying to figure out these themes and now the whole shebang is not working right. Second try with the feature post. That was what I wrote when trying to use a magazine theme with the feature post section. It really was a struggle to learn, but since then I have mastered it with that theme and others. It was one of Brian Gardner’s designs, and learning how to master the “feature posts” also taught me how to use custom fields.

This is my homepage… and I might use it eventually, but right now it is simply the post that came with the theme. This is a very simple and clean looking theme, and it is free. It does all kinds of things, which is quite nice for a free theme. It has options which customize it easily. I’ll have to work on this blog more and then the real homepage might be an introduction, instead of just a post that will be lost in time.
WordPress has the option of making one page the default landing page. Right now, this blog runs like a regular blog with all the new posts showing up at the top.
